Gifting to a good causeㅤ
Recently, severe weather and climate change concerns, coupled with the impact of the cost of living crisis and inflation, have been felt globally and certainly across New Zealand. For many of us, these disruptions have changed how we go about our day-to-day lives at work, at home, and in many other aspects. It is also recognised that these disruptions and the accompanying stress can significantly impact the mental well-being of our people's health, their relationships, their families, their jobs and how they see their future.
The construction industry is no exception. Research commissioned by MATES in Construction NZ has revealed that New Zealand's construction workers are more than two times more likely to die by suicide than the rest of the workforce. In fact, the construction industry is losing nearly one person every week to suicide, and 98% of those we lose are men.
To help change the conversation around mental health, and in line with our company's supportive ethos, Sto is contributing and partnering with MATES in Construction.
MATES in Construction is a non-profit organisation, that has one simple but hugely ambitious aim – to reduce the number of lives lost to suicide in the construction industry. The programme builds and strengthens workplace communities across the industry through 'The Four Pillars of Mates in Construction', which are: Informing through research; Raising awareness; Connecting those in need to help, and Creating resilient worksites through training.
Through their services, MATES in Construction has been able to provide positive mental health support to many of those who are struggling. We know our contribution to this exceptional cause will help MATES to continue its work and help those who need it most. For further information, please visit – Mates.net.nz
